How often does the high cost of travelling hinder you from making frequent plans? Money is, undoubtedly, an important aspect dictating most of your journeys. In this blog, we are going to tell you what other travel companies might not– how to save money while travelling with us.

At The Hosteller, one of our primary goals is to help you save money while travelling more. We have 55+ hostels across the country and have now branched into the luxury segment with Bam Hotels. As we expand, we haven’t deferred from our core mission, which is to make travel as easy, affordable and accessible as possible.

Here are seven travel hacks so your pockets feel heavy even after you return from your trip:

1. Become a member

Do you travel often? We love that you are such a frequent traveller. As a reward for your commitment to travelling, we invite you to join India’s most significant family of backpackers. The Hosteller Commune is a remarkable travel membership plan for our exclusive community of travellers, of which you can now be a part.

We extend an exclusive invite to sign up for the membership program by picking one out of the three different plans that we offer. You can be an Explorer, Voyager or a Wanderer based on your travel needs and goals. There are unlimited perks including a surprise trip, access to a core travel community, gift vouchers from popular brands, early check-ins and late check-outs at no additional charges, and more. It is a yearly membership plan and a great way to keep yourself in check for the entire year so your travels are uninterrupted with maximum benefits.

2. Travel on weekdays

This is a basic one but most ignored. Planning your trips on weekends is the go-to habit but, if you can manage to secure leaves on weekdays, you can not only save up money but also avoid crowds while exploring. Instead of going on the Fri-Sat-Sun trip, aim for a Sun-Mon-Tue trip.

Like many businesses in the hospitality industry, our prices are lower on weekdays when the demand is less, allowing you to secure your preferred stays even a week in advance. What’s more? Our check-in time is 2 PM, but since rooms might have been vacant the night before, you might be able to check in early if the room is ready.

3. Be an early booker

The optimal time to book your stay at The Hosteller is 30 days before your check-in date. During peak season like New year, we recommend reserving your stay up to 45 days in advance. Our prices fluctuate with the increasing demand, so if you are one of the first few people to book for the week you wish to stay with us, you can secure your room at a much cheaper rate.

We are all for impromptu travel, but you have to admit that planned travel is cheaper. Why? Stays are cheaper. Flights are cheaper. You can quickly secure reservations at popular restaurants/ bars. Added to that, it is less stressful, and since you have a plan, you can cover more places.

4. Stay for longer than a week

All our hostels (and Bam hotels) are great for long stays. That means that you can stay with us not just to explore places but also for a workation. If the downpour in your city is not stopping, and you are tired of the muddy boots and the local train rush, why not fly away to Ooty on a whim? Or escape the heatwave of the capital city by temporarily shifting your base to Manali?

While there, work during your working hours and explore during your free time. This way, your work isn’t affected, paid leaves are still in your pocket, and you become eligible for a flat 20% off if your stay is a week or longer.

 5. Opt for dormitories

Dormitories are the essence of staying in a hostel. The bond formed with strangers in those four walls can last a lifetime. They are compact and convenient. Plus, you have access to all the amenities that somebody staying in a private room has. You also have a locker to store your things safely, a work desk, stunning views, and, most of all, they are easy on the pocket.

 6. Travel during the off-peak season

Circling back to picking the right time for your travels, a trip to Manali in December could look very different from a trip to Manali in February. The difference is more than just the weather. The other factors that impact your experience are the cost involved, the crowd, the kind of rooms you stay in, the type of experiences, the costs involved in commuting, etc. For example, the price of a private room in February could be almost the same as that of a dormitory during Christmas. The point is that you must keep track of significant national events and festivals celebrated locally before planning your trip.

Visiting Vrindavan during Holi is a lovely experience– It’s vibrant and colourful and lets you experience the festival of colours in all its glory. However, the repercussions could be the last-minute accommodation shortages or expensive flights to reach Delhi. Visiting the city in September, on the other hand, offers a more serene and spiritual experience. Consider what type of experience you want and if budget is a concern, travelling off-season is always a wise choice.

7. Watch out for exclusive discount campaigns

At The Hosteller, we offer several promotions throughout the year to help you book a stay at a discounted rate by using a discount code. Our latest promotion was the Monsoon Campaign, where we reduced prices by 50% for a weekend. We regularly update our social media and website with information about these deals. Typical occasions for our offers include Republic Day, Holi, Diwali, and more. We recommend following us on social media to stay updated on our latest offers and stay ahead of the game.
